S prispevki 150 fotografinj in fotografov predstavlja Photo Graz 2024 trenutni večplastni posnetek štajerske fotografske scene.

 photo graz selection VI

Current Positions of Styrian Photography

Since 2006, the Styrian Photo Biennial photo graz has been dedicated to presenting the current photo-graphy scene in Graz and Styria. With contributions from 150 photographic artists, photo graz 024 presented a multifaceted snapshot of the Styrian photography scene. photo graz selection VI presents a selection of 25 positions that show how lively, contemporary and diverse this photography scene is. Graz, Austria’s second largest city, developed into a place of production and communication for progressive photography from the 1950s onwards – even more than at that time in the federal capital Vienna. This tradition continues to this day and forms the basis for the size and diversity of this

photography scene.

65 years lie between the oldest (*1940) and the youngest artist (*2005) in this exhibition. During this period, it is not only the technical requirements of photography that have changed massively. Social and geopolitical developments have also brought new themes into the focus of artistic exploration. The range of topics of the exhibition encompasses issues relating to self-staging, identity and the image of women, as well as references to a broad spectrum of current socio-political and cultura issues – climate change, migration, gender aspects, etc. Techniques from the old age of photography– camera obscura, solar photography, stereoscopy, photogram – meet images that explore and use AI with consideration. The exhibition gives an opportunity to determine a position within the variety of schools of thought and approaches that characterize this medium.
